We are extremely happy to announce that Greys are back with a new album. Surprise! Warm Shadow is a companion piece to Greys’ acclaimed sophomore album, Outer Heaven, comprised of original material as well as elements from that album’s recording sessions at Hotel 2 Tango in Montreal. Penning new songs, manipulating tape drones created from various studio experiments and rearranging old favourites, Warm Shadow‘s intent is to create a parallel world which illuminates the dynamic contrasts that reside on Outer Heaven and within Greys themselves. Read more about it + check out an exclusive interview via Stereogum.
Warm Shadow is available on Bandcamp as a “Pay-What-You-Can” download. All proceeds go to Sistering. Sistering is a trans-inclusive agency supporting women from across Toronto who experience first hand the impact of marginalization and poverty. They may be homeless, or are at risk of becoming homeless. They are a diverse group, from 16 to 80-plus years old: women with substance use or mental health issues; sex workers; women who have interactions with the criminal justice system; women who have experienced, or are experiencing, trauma and violence; immigrant and refugee women; women with health issues and disabilities; and women without legal status.
Cassettes are also available on the Carpark shop.

More new music coming your way! Greys just premiered their track “Fresh Hell” via Bandcamp, boasting a new sound and a look at some of the bands who helped to influence it.
Singer Shehzaad Jiwani says of the track, “I wrote the lyrics for this song after hearing about Jian Ghomeshi’s acquittal, and of Rob Ford’s death. There seemed to be a baffling amount of support and sympathy for these public figures who were, for lack of a better term, total pieces of shit. Ghomeshi’s verdict only seemed to reinforce institutional sexism and rape culture, while Ford receiving sort of a hero’s funeral completely ignored all of the ways he affected my city and most of its residents by being a racist, homophobic misogynist. I imagined this Orwellian future where anyone who disagreed with the public opinion was violently assimilated, which I think matches the cyberpunk vibe of the song. Get me off this planet.”

Kick your week off right with Greys’ cover of The Velvet Underground’s “Candy Says.” The track is streaming now via NME Magazine.
Frontman Shehzaad Jiwani on the cover: “I got on a huge Velvets kick right before we went into the studio to record Outer Heaven. Their self-titled record was on repeat for me in the van and while walking around Montreal in between studio sessions. The lyrics of ‘Candy Says’ really resonated with me on a personal level, and the feeling of being uncomfortable in your own skin fits with the album’s overarching themes of displacement and detachment. That, and I’ve always wanted to be a crooner.”
