“Age Hasn’t Spoiled You” album stream

May 8, 2019 11:48 am

A very special album is coming out this Friday, and thanks to Hype Machine, you can stream that very special album two days early. Listen to Greys' new record Age Hasn't Spoiled You right here.

You still have time to pre-order the record! Check it out on the Carpark shop.

A richly textured experience, the album draws influence from krautrock, industrial, hip hop, dub, psychedelia, jazz, ambient, drone and more, sometimes within the same song. That this mix of sounds never obscures the album’s sharp focus is a testament to the group’s finely honed approach to both songwriting and production. Inspired by the stylistic sprawls of classic third albums like The Beastie Boys' Check Your Head, PJ Harvey's To Bring You My Love or The Talking Heads' Fear Of Music - records where artists reinvented themselves as something far beyond what was previously thought possible for them - on Age Hasn’t Spoiled You, the always ambitious Greys attempt to throw off the weight of genre or expectation, and break through the boundaries of their sound.

“Arc Light” music video

March 27, 2019 12:02 pm

Second single from Greys’ new record is out today via the YouTube. It’s heavy, and distorted, and encapsulates everything the band is putting forth in Age Hasn’t Spoiled You. Watch the vid for “Arc Light” here, directed by Rachelle Walker.

Shehzaad Jiwani on the video:
If there were one song to communicate everything Greys is about, it would be “Arc Light.” This is the first song we recorded for Age Hasn’t Spoiled You at the top of 2018, and each song we wrote over the year we spent making the album could trace a piece of itself back to this one. Musically, it’s everywhere we’ve been and everywhere we’re going. We tried to reimagine and recontextualize the tools we are comfortable using to make something new. The lyrics try to evoke a number of things within each line – mental exhaustion, content fatigue, tours of duty and alienation – and the images in the video reflect these overlapping concepts. The song lands somewhere between Unwound’s New Plastic Ideas and Check Your Head by the Beastie Boys. Or something. I don’t know. You tell me.

Age Hasn’t Spoiled You isn’t due out until May 10th, but you can pre-order the record from the Carpark shop and/or stream the first two single on your favorite streaming service.

Greys announce new album + share the first single, “These Things Happen”

March 6, 2019 11:02 am

Beyond thrilled to share new music from Greys. Listen to the first single, “These Things Happen,” from their forthcoming record via The FADER … “[Greys] forgoes sheen with mountains of powerful, spiritualized-style fuzzes for maximum immersion.”

Age Hasn’t Spoiled You is due out May 10th. Pre-orders available here.

It coincided with the political and social climate decaying around us, which is a very peculiar experience to actually live through. Like, the last show we played in 2016 was literally a day or two before the election, and a year later there was talk of nuclear war…Our city has been gentrified to the point of being unrecognizable and inaccessible to me. Lots of changes on every level. Listening back, I think this record is largely informed by that sense of instability, musically as well as lyrically.  — Shehzaad Jiwani

Greys release surprise album “Warm Shadow”

October 5, 2016 10:51 am

We are extremely happy to announce that Greys are back with a new album. Surprise! Warm Shadow is a companion piece to Greys’ acclaimed sophomore album, Outer Heaven, comprised of original material as well as elements from that album’s recording sessions at Hotel 2 Tango in Montreal. Penning new songs, manipulating tape drones created from various studio experiments and rearranging old favourites, Warm Shadow‘s intent is to create a parallel world which illuminates the dynamic contrasts that reside on Outer Heaven and within Greys themselves. Read more about it + check out an exclusive interview via Stereogum.

Warm Shadow is available on Bandcamp as a “Pay-What-You-Can” download. All proceeds go to Sistering. Sistering is a trans-inclusive agency supporting women from across Toronto who experience first hand the impact of marginalization and poverty. They may be homeless, or are at risk of becoming homeless. They are a diverse group, from 16 to 80-plus years old: women with substance use or mental health issues; sex workers; women who have interactions with the criminal justice system; women who have experienced, or are experiencing, trauma and violence; immigrant and refugee women; women with health issues and disabilities; and women without legal status.

Cassettes are also available on the Carpark shop.
