Carpark signs Palm

March 8, 2017 12:36 pm

We are beyond excited to welcome Palm to the Carpark family! Catch them on the road and at SXSW this march. More news coming soon !!

“Palm plays rock music backwards.

Their songs bare a certain methodology, though there is a tendency towards impulse which seems almost violently opposed to it. The band deals willfully in contradictions like this. The elements of any given song fit together like slightly melted puzzle pieces, serving up rigidity and looseness in equal measure. Palm songs imply architecure, but their compositional structures are somehow bound by different rules of physics than the ones we know. Lattices of guitar language (provided by Eve Alpert and Kasra Kurt) intersect the rhythmic organism characterized by the twitchy throb of Gerasimos Livitsanos’ bass and the carless tumble of Hugo Stanley’s drums, with a layer of disembodied vocals draped atop the whole thing. Emotional yet clinical, wild yet contained, the sounds they offer are equally bizarre as they are pleasantly pretty.

Palm formed around 2011, shortly after its members met in college in Upstate New York. The years they spent writing and playing when not in school culminated in the release of Trading Basics in 2015, around which time they relocated to Philadelphia. Since then they’ve been playing shows throughout the country while they continue to hammer out their sound to be as refined as it is outlandish. More to come.”

GEMS shares “X Valentine”

February 10, 2017 12:49 pm

Stream the latest from GEMS, “X Valentine,” via SoundCloud.

You can pick up the track via the Carpark shop and iTunes. It is also streaming now on Spotify.

“This Valentine’s Day will be the first we won’t spend together.  I had that realization recently when I flew back east to visit my parents for the holidays. Going through the boxes Clifford and I had packed away was like going through a time capsule. There were photographs of us from years ago, young and blindly optimistic. There was a stack of cards and Valentines we’d written one another, each one proclaiming our undying love. Even when times were tough, as long as we had one another we could conquer anything. Even if we didn’t have a home, we had a home together. As it turns out, life marches on regardless, and sometimes the most vibrant love can cease to grow. However, ‘X Valentine’ isn’t a funeral dirge, but a recognition of a past great love and a resilience that two people share as they move forward through life alone.”

“Fantasy” music video

February 2, 2017 12:17 pm

The Brooklyn-based duo Prince Rama just shared yet another mind-bending video, this time for their track “Fantasy,” taken from last-year’s Xtreme Now.

Along with the video, Rama also announced the launch of their new fashion line, “Xtreme Mess,” and their upcoming appearance in James Franco’s new movie, High School Lovers. Find all of the info you need via Stereogum.

A surrealist horror film directed by Matthew Hoffman and Taraka Larson.
Shot on Super 8mm and edited by Matthew Hoffman.

Fantasy. A dizzying, phantasmagoric wormhole to a space beyond time, an alternate world-line without past or future.

Fantasy. A full moon that never sets, the velvet fingers of a perpetual magic hour. Fantasy. A girl devoured by sheep, an infant being knighted. Fantasy. The Garden of Eden and Dante’s Inferno coming together as one. Fantasy. Hieronymous Bosch burning at the stake. Fantasy. The Color of Pomegranates, splattered with blood. Fantasy. A haunted paradise built on the echoes of ethereal violence. Fantasy. A supernatural ritual with no beginning or ending. Fantasy. The razor sword-edge separating light from darkness, life from death, god from monster, submerged in a mirror. Fantasy. The kingdom of heaven, ravaged by ghosts. Fantasy.

“Xtreme Mess” is the world’s first Now Age fashion line by Prince Rama’s Taraka Larson and Courtney Gamble of MessQueen. It is a line of extreme sports-inspired outerwear infused with sci fi medieval elements to create a neon universe that is entirely unique and tailored to 21st century extreme lifestyles.

There will be an “Xtreme Mess” launch party on March 30th at Brooklyn Boulders LIC, featuring a Prince Rama DJ set, vertical runway show, and discounted rock climbing for all attendees.
