Speedy Ortiz announces new album, shares single, adds tour dates

February 21, 2018 10:03 am

“Necessary brattiness” is the motto for Speedy Ortiz’s dauntless new collection of songs, Twerp Verse. The follow-up to 2015’s Foil Deer, the band’s latest indie rock missive is prompted by a tidal wave of voices, no longer silent on the hurt they’ve endured from society’s margins. But like many of these truth-tellers, songwriter, guitarist and singer Sadie Dupuis scales the careful line between what she calls being “outrageous and practical” in order to be heard at all.

We are proud to announce that Speedy Ortiz’s brand new record, Twerp Verse, will be out April 27th, 2018. Check out the slimy music video for the first single “Lucky 88,” via NPR.

Twerp Verse pre-orders are available on the Carpark shop and iTunes. “Lucky 88” is also available on your favorite streaming service.

Bundle your purchase of an LP, CD, Cassette with a Twerp Verse tee or Speedy Ortiz notebook or both! Deluxe LP includes pink vinyl with rainbow splatter and a bonus 7″. Get them while you can!

“You need to employ a self-preservational sense of humor to speak truth in an increasingly baffling world,” says Dupuis. “I call it a ‘twerp verse’ when a musician guests on a track and says something totally outlandish – like a Lil Wayne verse – but it becomes the most crucial part. This record is our own twerp verse, for those instances when you desperately need to stand up and show your teeth.”

In celebration of the new album, the band will be hitting the road this May. Tickets will be available on Friday, February 23rd at 10am EST.

speedy ortiz shares “emma o”

May 23, 2016 2:15 pm

Speedy Ortiz premiered “Emma O”, the third track from their recently announced Foiled Again EP, with Zane Lowe’s World First Exclusive on Apple Music today.

“’Emma O’ is the name of the Japanese Buddhist overlord of hell who judges souls” says frontwoman Sadie Dupuis. “It’s about spending uncomfortable, quiet hours with someone you still love but shouldn’t. I wrote it at a farmhouse in upstate
New York years ago.”

Foiled Again is a digital-only release. Pre-order a copy of the EP today via Carpark Records and iTunes. The first two singles “Death Note” and “Puffer feat. Lizzo (Lazerbeak Remix)” are also streaming now.

Speedy Ortiz share second single from “Foiled Again”

May 13, 2016 12:41 pm

Speedy Ortiz shared the second single from their forthcoming EP Foiled Again. The track is the first of two remixes of their previously released “Puffer” which features Lizzo & Doomtree’s Lazerbeak. Stream it now via Earmilk.

Sadie Dupuis on the track: “I was really into the album Lizzobangers, so we hit up Lizzo and Lazerbeak about collaborating in some way, even though we hadn’t met IRL. After this remix was in the works, Speedy toured with Doomtree (who taught Mike [Speedy’s drummer] how to shotgun a beer), and Lizzo and I wrote and recorded the song ‘Basement Queens’ together in December. So in a way this remix was the catalyst for that tour as well as the song.”

Foiled Again is out June 3rd. Pre-orders are available now in the Carpark shop and iTunes.
