A new short film for Young Magic’s “Something In The Water” premieres today via Nowness. See what they call a “spellbinding video.”
The film was shot and directed by Christine Yuan and Adi Putra, two filmmakers from Los Angeles whose recent works include collaborations with Blackbird Blackbird and Moby. Christine has also made films for DAZED Digital including “GAWDS,” a 2014 film following teen life on a Navajo Reservation in Arizona and “DIYU 地獄,” a short film exploring the concept of hell in Chinese mythology.
This summer, the filmmaking duo began work on a new short film shot in Switzer Falls, a forest beneath a mountain surrounding north Los Angeles. They teamed up with costume designer Jen Martin to create original costumes. The film stars Grace Wilcox, a 10-year-old wunderkind who enjoys acting, dancing, and meditating.
The footage was then sent to Young Magic who soundtracked the video with “Something in The Water” from their sophomore LP, Breathing Statues.
Breathing Statues is available now in the Carpark shop and iTunes.
